Kingsnakes

It was late 1968 and John Mayall was the first influence, then backtrack JM's influences, then find instrument…..the 'interview' is in fact Paul telling us the story of his time in the Blues. The harp solos section is a great way to observe this master and his techniques then try them out if you can as Paul sits and discuses in what I assume was his lounge. The stage seyt kicks off in gloriously grained b/w before converting to colour as the second track begins. The line-up includes the wonderful Johnny Whitehill on guitar, Earl Green vocal (he always reminds me of the towering Nathanial Petersen who was with Savoy Brown for four years and his wonderful deep/smokey voice), the 'athletic' Rod Demick on upright bass. Recorded at The Buttermarket Club in Shrewsbury. There is a feeling of stage congestion with some angles looking decidedly cramped but the band are enjoying themselves and so too are the crowd and it all reflects in a great performance. Don't Answer The Door' allows plenty of 'work out' room for the guys and intimate close ups of techniques. A great evening, a great show of super talent, on this evidence they should re-name part of the N.E. of England 'Little Chicago'…………Caleb
